Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Security Systems and Home Automation Products & Packages
What is "Pre-Wiring"
Pre-Wiring of a home or business means that we will come in during the construction phase and run all of the wires necessary for the alarm, automation and/or sound system prior to the installation of the drywall. This allows you to run wires for many future options that you may desire later but do not necessarily wish to install now. Once the drywall is up, your options for future products and services may become limited or much more costly to install.

What Additional Protection Devices are Available?
Our wide variety of packaged security products come with many of the most popular options. However, there are a weath of other devices that can be added to help ensure the safety of your family, employees and property. Some of the more popular add-on devices are as follows:
Cellular Backup. Many homes and businesses have the main phone box on the outside of the structure. The phone company does this for their easy access but it seriously compromises your safety and security. A professional burglar will simply cut the phone line from this box and has easy access to it. This will prevent your alarm system from calling us and getting the police or fire department on their way to you. The Cellular Backup simply waits for a disruption in the phone line either by a storm, a burglar or for any other reason. It then sends the appropriate signals to us just as the alarm system would do using the phone line. This is one of the most important items to add to any alarm system.
Glass Break Detectors. Those customers wishing to protect a perimeter around their home or business and still be able to walk freely around inside should consider glass break detectors. These small devices are programmed to listen for the specific frequencies made by the sound of breaking glass. They are an alternative to motion detectors or, if used in conjunction with them, provide for a seamless security system.
Carbon Monoxide Detector. Carbon Monoxide is a deadly gas. You can't see or smell it and it will kill you. If you have any natural gas appliances in your home or business, this small investment could well save your life.
Temperature Sensor. Worried about your pipes in the winter if you leave for vacation? Do you have critical cold storage units at your business that you need to monitor? A simple temperature sensor allows us to notify you if any temperature setting gets outside of the range you select.
Lighting Controls. Burglars don't like light and leaving lights on when you're away from home or work is a good idea. However, your alarm system can be programmed to turn different lights on and off at different times and days. This reasonably-priced option allows a greater amount of security to be provided to you by helping to keep potential burglars away from the structure.
Sump Pump Detector. Most flooding isn't covered by insurance and sump pumps do go bad and generally don't work during power outages unless there is a backup battery. Even then, having forewarning of a rise in water could save you thousands of dollars in repair costs not to mention the health concerns brought on by mold and mildew.

Will Motion Detectors Work if I Have a Pet?
Yes! We have motion detectors that ignore pets up to 80 pounds in weight.

Do You Charge Extra to Monitor Smoke or Carbon Monoxide Detectors?
Unlike the national companies we do not charge additional fees to monitor smoke or carbon monoxide detectors. It doesn't cost more to perform this monitoring so we don't think it's fair or honest to charge for it.

What is "Home Automation"
Home Automation is simply the automating of basic tasks such as turning on and off lights, opening and closing blinds, changing thermostat settings, arming and disarming the security system and other such activities. We haven't figured out a way to automatically take out the trash or mow the grass but we're working on it.

Are Your Products & Services the Same as National Companies?
Yes! Although ADT and others "private label" their products, most of the alarm systems the national companies use are made by Honeywell (Ademco), DSC and General Electric. We are dealers for all of these systems and have decades of experience with them.

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Structured Wiring
What is Structured Wiring?
Structured wiring consists of high-quality CAT5-E and RG-6 cabling to handle all of your phone/network and cable/satellite connections through one centralized distribution panel normally located in the mechanical area of your home. This distribution box will allow easy access for the addition of routers, cable box/satellite inputs and other whole-house systems that you may wish to install. Gone are the days of cable “splitters” and other such devices which, often, reduced the overall quality of your entertainment system. The cables we use have a high resistance to interference and are excellent transmitters of high-speed digital signals from cable modems and home networks.

Can Additional Phone/Cable Outlets be Added?
When pre-wiring your home, we suggest running as many cables as possible. They need not all be “terminated” (hooked up) to the distribution box. When you're ready to add more inputs to the system, we simply terminate one of the extra lines into the distribution box. Don't have any extra wires? This, generally, isn't a problem. Many times we can find a way to run the extra wires you need.

Can You Install a Home Network?
Absolutely. We routinely install high-quality routers and other devices needed to provide our customers with a reliable home network which will allow them to share files, printers, internet access and allow the entire family to be on the internet all at once from different computers.
